Yes, this post is late. I apologize!

I?m tired.

I?m taking a mini-break and resting over these next couple of days.

In the past few days, I did over 7 loads of laundry. Yesterday, I put all 7 loads away and packed for 5 people.

After a week of the Hubs working very late and mama being on her own, this mama decided to get a little extended family time and help with the boys.

I am very thankful for family.

I am very thankful for friends (and my Grow Group Gals!).

I am thankful for rest.

I am thankful for mini-vacations even when I don?t go much of anywhere or do much of anything.

I am thriving today by resting and recharging. <? tweet this!

Partisanship shapes beliefs about political and non-political issues ...

A pre-election survey by the independent research organization NORC at the University of Chicago found that party affiliation alters how people react to political as well as non-political issues, including how individuals assess their own financial well-being.

The results suggest that partisanship is often a substitute for knowledge and personal experience, researchers said.

?We conducted this survey because the country is facing serious problems and solving them is made much harder by our deep partisan divide,? said Kirk Wolter, senior fellow and executive vice president of survey research with NORC at the University of Chicago. ?We wanted to measure what the American people were thinking and how partisanship affects their opinions. With this survey, we are attempting to provide information that will help all of us discuss how to bridge the partisan divide and solve our most pressing problems.?

The survey of 2,136 adults, conducted in the weeks prior to the 2012 presidential election, measured public opinion about key issues and knowledge about responsibility for recent policies, such as the Troubled Asset Relief Program and the Affordable Care Act. Across ideologies, partisan views had the potential to distort understanding of basic facts.

Who's Responsible for State of the Economy??

?In the survey, it is clear that Republicans and Democrats see the world very differently,? said Mark Hansen, the Charles L. Hutchinson Professor in Political Science. ?Even matters that are not obviously political, like whether or not people think the economy is improving or whether their family?s finances have improved, were strongly influenced by political party affiliation.

?Democrats were more likely to sense that the nation?s economy is getting better and to report that their family?s finances have improved. Republicans were more likely to report the opposite.?

According to the survey:

• 55 percent of Democrats said the nation?s economy has gotten better in the last year
• 20 percent of independents said the nation?s economy has gotten better in the last year
• 8 percent of Republicans said the nation?s economy has gotten better in the last year
• 28 percent of Democrats said their own family?s finances are better off than last year
• 14 percent of independents said their family finances are better off than last year
• 9 percent of Republicans said their family finances are better off than last year

Accounting for other possible factors, the survey found that opinions about who is responsible for the condition of the economy are largely driven by political party affiliation:

• Only 1.2 percent and 0.1 percent of self-identified strong Democrats assign the most blame for the state of the economy to President Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats, respectively
• Only 2.4 percent and 0.4 percent of self-identified strong Republicans assign the most blame to President George W. Bush and Congressional Republicans, respectively

Evaluating the Affordable Care Act

The survey provides empirical evidence that support for the Affordable Care Act is largely a function of whether a person is a Republican or Democrat.

?I was not surprised party affiliation influenced people?s opinions of the Affordable Care Act, but I was surprised that partisanship trumped personal experiences with our health care system,? said Andrea Campbell, professor of political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ?Personal experiences, like being denied health insurance for a pre-existing condition, have little effect on public support for the law. Instead, support is largely based on political party affiliation and beliefs about the likely impact of the law in the near future.?

There is a clear split in support for the ACA among independents, with almost half opposing the law. These respondents are much less supportive of President Obama than those who favor the law:

• 64 percent of independents who oppose repeal of the act prefer Obama
• 24 percent of independents who support repeal of the act prefer Obama

Support for President Obama also drops for Democrats who favor repeal of the Affordable Care Act:

• 93 percent of Democrats who oppose repeal of the act support Obama
• 80 percent of Democrats who support repealing the act support Obama

Party Affiliation?s Impact on Policy Knowledge

The survey also found that respondents? ?knowledge? of policy responsibility was strongly shaped by partisanship. People tend to attribute success in passing legislation, whatever it is, to their affiliated party. Claiming credit for policies was especially strong among Democrats and Obama supporters.

• 62.2 percent of respondents who prefer President Obama attributed both the Affordable Care Act and the Medicare prescription drug benefit to Barack Obama, though the Medicare prescription drug benefit was signed by President George W. Bush?in 2003
• 4.3 percent of respondents who prefer Republican candidate Mitt Romney attributed both policies to George W. Bush

In addition to Hansen and Campbell, experts partnering with NORC on the survey included Stephen Ansolabehere, professor of government at Harvard University; and?Benjamin Page, the?Gordon S. Fulcher Professor of Decision Making at Northwestern University.

State District Judge Mike Snipes

In ordering disbarred Dallas attorney Thomas Corea back in jail on Wednesday, state District Judge Mike Snipes also said he?d be willing to reconsider his decision.

?I would be willing to potentially reconsider this when you?re better prepared,? Snipes told Corea and his attorney, John Gussio.

Snipes said today, however, that he did not mean to imply that Gussio had done a bad job in defending his client.

?I meant that I would give him another chance when he had more time to get witnesses together and so forth,? Snipes said.

In the meantime, though, the judge said his decision was justified ?because I felt like [Corea] was a danger to society.?

Corea, who was indicted earlier this year on four felonies alleging he stole from his clients, is now accused of?trashing his Design District office and leaving obscene graffiti and messages all over the walls after being evicted last month.

He?s in the Dallas County Jail tonight with his bond set at $500,000.

?I hope I don?t hurt your feeling mom, but I like the Dordogne better than Paris. ?We can run around and there?s more nature.?. Spoken like a true 8 year old. ?I can?t say I blamed him. ?After a week on my own with my two kids in lovely Paris, even I needed a place where I could run, jump and yell. ?I was also looking forward to some adult company as we were meeting up with my parents and pre-teen nieces (or shall I say my babysitters).

The Dordogne river valley in southwest France (sometimes referred to as the?Perigord) is a pastoral paradise with picturesque villages and fairytale castles built into limestone cliffs. ?The area is also famous for it?s incredible prehistoric cave paintings. The farm to table culinary delights available at the local markets are not to be missed. ?Upon your return, you will find it hard to shake the memories of picnics under walnut trees with fresh pain de campagne, fois gras (if that?s your thing), local cheese, sausage, and wild strawberries, all washed down with a sumptuous glass of Bordeaux. ?What could be better?

Anytime I asked a local villager where to find a good place to swim in the river, they would simply point directly at it. ?Apparently there was no bad place, or at least not in August when the river flowed very slowly. ?My kids spent hours in ankle deep water, looking up only occasionally as a canoe or family of ducks floated by.

There are many companies that offer canoe trips on the Dordogne but we chose?Canoe Copeyre??because it was well reviewed and allowed for the shortest trip over one of the most scenic sections of the river. ?The trip could be done in as little as 2 1/2 hours, but you really need about 4 hours including transport and time for a rest (or a bite to eat as there are several lovely villages along the route). ?The company provided child size life jackets and the paddling was quite easy, despite the fact that my two kids didn?t help out much. ?It?s really more of a float down the river than a rigorous paddle (at least in August).

Chateau de Castelnaud?has everything you child is dying to see including knights in armor, catapult demonstrations, gelato stands, a cute little store well stocked with books and costumes, and gorgeous views of the Dordogne river valley. ?Also worth visiting is Chateau de Beynac?(4.5/5 on tripadvisor). ?As two castles in one day might be too much for little ones?Chateau de Beynac?could be combined on another day with a visit to the famed Jardins de Marquessac.

The cliffside gardens of?Marqueyssac?(4/5 on tripadvisor) are a wonderful place to let your kids have a little run around. ?These beautiful gardens have several games areas for children and a wonderful boxwood maze. ?In the summertime they also host an evening where you can tour the gardens lit by candlelight to the soothing sounds of classical music. Please check their calendar for more?entertainment options at Marqueyssac. ?How I would love to be there for their spring Easter egg hunt !

There are many options for the viewing of prehistoric cave paintings and drawings in this region. ?We chose to visit Les Grottes de Rouffignac ?(4.5/5 on tripadvisor)?since they seemed to be the most kid-friendly.?Les Grottes de Rouffignac?offers short tours via a 20 minute electric train ride, which is sure to keep most children entertained.

A more thorough 45 minute tour can be found at Les Grottes de Font-de-Gaume (4.5/5 on tripadvisor). ?The difficulty with Font-de-Gaume, however, is that they only allow around 100 people to tour the caves daily. ?You can either try to reserve ahead (months in advance in summer to guarantee a place) at?fontdegaume@monuments-nationaux.fr,??or arrive early the day of to wait in line for the few remaining tickets.

Also very popular are the colorful cave drawing reproductions of?Lascaux II??(4/5 on tripadvisor). ?These drawings and paintings are a recreation of the original Grotte de Lascaux (situated 200 meters away), that was closed to the public in 1963 due to the carbon dioxide deterioration caused by too many visitors.

A young Kenyan mother has named her newborn twin sons after the U.S. president-elect and his defeated Republican challenger.

Millicent Owuor, 20, gave birth to Barack Obama and Mitt Romney on Wednesday at the Siaya District Hospital in southwest Kenya, according to the Standard.

Owuor told the Kenyan news outlet her sons' names will always remind her of the election in the United States.

The hospital is near the village of Kogelo, where where President Barack Obama's father was born and where his 90-year-old stepgrandmother, Sarah Obama, resides.

Jubilant residents in Kogelo cheered Obama's victory as results from the United States were reported.

Shouts of "Hail our Kogelo son" and "Obama is coming, open the road for him" rang through the air as locals blew vuvuzela horns in celebration, the Standard reports.

"If Obama did not win, I believe most projects here would stall," Joseph Onyango told the Kenyan media outlet.

Kenyans hope Obama's re-election will harken a fresh start for a U.S. relationship with Kenya, Reuters reports.

Obama visited sub-Saharan Africa just once during his first four years as president?a stop of less than a day in Ghana, according to Reuters.

If Obama does visit Kenya, maybe baby Barack can meet his namesake and baby Mitt meet the U.S. president.

There's no word yet if there have been twins named Joe Biden and Paul Ryan.

It is a deadly disease for both humans and animals.

Pet owners come together to fight back against cancer. They're walking to raise money...one foot, and one paw at a time.

Five year old Ansley McLaurin of Hendersonville has faced challenges in her young life.

"Ansley was diagnosed with Pleuropulmonary Blastoma in December 2009," says mother Amy McLaurin.

Ansley is cancer survivor and now that's she well again, her family is helping others.

"We're here trying to help raise awareness for cancer research whether canine or children or adult in any way that we can," say Amy McLaurin.

At Centennial Park dog owners are gathering to fight canine cancer.

The disease not only threatens humans, but also pets.

Renee McGee lost her golden retriever.

"And it was the worst thing to see her get sick and sick and not be able to do anything.? So that's why I'm here to honor, and to say I remember Buffy, and to say this is important," says McGee.

This is one of 40 Puppy Up! Walks being held around the country.?? It's organized by the non-profit 2 Million Dogs.

The goal is to raise money for comparative oncology research, which is the study of cancer in pets to better understand and treat human cancer.

"If we can figure out why one species develops cancer, how to prevent it, and how to treat it, and how to cure it, we have a connection to the other species," says coordinator Sheila Ranks.

A dog named Ingrid served as grand marshal for the two mile walk. She lost a leg to cancer over a year ago.

"It was a big surprise to us to find out what a serious problem it is for dogs," says Ingrid's owner Sterling Whitaker.

The goal is to fund research that will one day put an end to cancer for dogs, adults, and children.

"In any way we can give back to other families on a road that we've traveled, than we would certainly like to do that," says Amy McLaurin.

Organizers raised more than $7,500 for comparative oncology research. They're hoping to raise $10,000 in Nashville before the end of the year.
